Latisse®

Latisse® is a prescription treatment which was approved by the FDA in 2008 for hypotrichosis (inadequate or not enough eyelashes). Daily application helps to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. Clinical studies showed that use of Latisse® demonstrated a noticeable increase in eyelash prominence in 5% of patients at 1 week, 50% of patients at 8 weeks and 78% of patients at 16 weeks. If it is discontinued, eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.

Latisse® solution is intended for use on the skin of the upper eyelids at the base of the eyelashes. It should not be applied to the lower eyelids.

Q&A:

Q: How do I apply Latisse® and how much should I use?

A: Make sure that your face is clean and that you have removed your eye makeup. Use the sterile applicators that come in the kit. Apply one small drop of the Latisse® solution near the tip of one applicator, then brush across the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes. Do not allow the tip of the bottle to touch your fingers or any other surface. Blot any excess solution that goes beyond your eyelashes. Do not place the solution in your eye or on your lower eyelids. Use one sterile applicator for each side and dispose of the applicators after use.

Q: What if Latisse® gets into my eye by mistake?

A: Latisse® is an ophthalmic product and is not expected to cause harm if it gets in your eye. You do not need to rinse your eye if this happens.

Q: Can I use Latisse® if I wear contact lenses?

A: Yes, however, contact lenses should be removed before applying Latisse®. Contact lenses may be reinserted 15 minutes after using Latisse®.

Q: I heard that Latisse® can make the color of your eyes darker. Is this true?

A: Increased pigmentation in the iris or colored part of the eye may occur with the use of Latisse® and may be permanent. Although it does not happen frequently, increased brown pigmentation of the iris has occurred with administration of Latisse® solution. Do not apply Latisse® directly in your eyes or on your lower eyelids.

Q: After I started using Latisse® my upper eyelid skin got darker. Is this normal?

A: Your eyelashes may darken and you may also see pigment changes (darkening) of the upper eyelid skin with the use of Latisse®. If you discontinue the product, the darkening is expected to reverse after several weeks to months.
