“No-downtime” Face Peel

This facial peel using Mandelic acid is an excellent option for patients with sensitive skin including patients with rosacea. It can also be used as a last minute brightening peel to refresh your skin in preparation for a special evening or event. A medium strength alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), Mandelic acid gently exfoliates to produce improved skin tone and texture with an illuminated appearance. Treatment with Mandelic acid also reduces the appearance of skin redness and pore size and can improve the ruddiness associated with rosacea or acne prone skin. The best results will be obtained with a series of 3 to 6 peels about 2 weeks apart.

You may be a good candidate for a Face Peel with Mandelic acid if you would like to treat any of the following:

:: skin redness

:: noticeable pores

:: oily skin

:: non-cystic acne

:: mild areas of hyperpigmentation

:: uneven skin tone

Office procedure: You will be asked to wash your face with a gentle cleanser. The areas to be treated will be cleansed with a preparatory solution. The Mandelic acid solution will then be applied. You may feel a mild tingling. 1 to 3 layers will be applied depending on how your skin reacts. To complete the treatment, a neutralizer will be applied.

What to expect with treatment: Immediately after your peel, your skin may sting but the stinging sensation will subside within a few hours. You may have some mild redness which will resolve within a day or two. Your skin may feel dry and tight after your peel – we recommend that you use a good moisturizer to help keep your skin hydrated and a sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher.

Q&A:

Q: Can the Mandelic acid peel be used to treat acne?

A: Yes, the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of Mandelic acid make it an excellent choice for treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. It also helps to decrease sebum production. Although Salicylic acid peels (see Micropeel) are more commonly used to treat acne lesions, Mandelic acid is better tolerated in patients with sensitive skin. A series of 3 to 6 peels is recommended for the best results.

Q: I would like for my skin to look nice for an upcoming wedding I am attending. Can I have this peel the same day?

A: Yes, the Mandelic acid peel gently exfoliates, leaving your skin feeling smooth and looking refreshed without the irritation seen with some of the stronger acids.

Q: Does the Mandelic acid peel help rosacea?

A: Mandelic acid has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to ease the inflammation or redness associated with rosacea.
